Mamelodi Sundowns confirmed today that they will do battle against La Liga champions Barcelona on Wednesday, 16 May at the FNB Stadium as a part of the Nelson Mandela Centenary Celebrations, writes DEAN WORKMAN.
Downs initially announced that the game will take place last week Friday, but there was no confirmation from Barcelona. The Spanish giants then confirmed the game will indeed take place after a press conference was held in Johannesburg by Sundowns.
The PSL champions will partner with the Motsepe Foundation, an inter-ministerial committee, the Nelson Mandela Foundation, Safa and La Liga.
Mamelodi Sundowns owner Patrice Motsepe, speaking at the press conference, revealed that the delay in the announcement was due to a number of internal processes that needed to run their course at Barcelona.
He also confirmed that stars such as Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez will be coming with the squad.
Tickets are now live, selling at a record-breaking rate of 216 per minute! #Sundowns #DownsBarca
