Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler has revealed his disappointment having drawn 0-0 against former club Orlando Pirates as he believes victory was in grasp.
City traveled to the Orlando Stadium for the tie and caused the Buccaneers numerous problems, particularly in the first 45-minutes in the match. The draw takes City to a total of four points after three games – three point back of early front-runners Pirates and Bidvest Wits.
‘I think tonight to be entirely honest with you. I thought it was a fantastic first-half performance, we started extremely well. We put them under pressure, we didn’t allow them to play and we created chances,’ Tinkler told SuperSport.
The coach admitted that his side’s failure to find the back of the net had ultimately cost them the match and that his side might have had more luck had they utilised the width of the field to better effect.
‘The final ball was just not there. Sometimes also the ball comes in and the attackers are not attacking the ball,’ Tinkler added.
‘I thought we could have won this tonight, but I am very, very proud of the boys, it was a great performance. It was a deserved point, but definitely we were worth three,’ he concluded.
City are next in action when they take on Ajax Cape Town on Friday.
The action at Cape Town Stadium gets underway from 20:00.
