England striker Jamie Vardy say he was satisfied with his performance after scoring the second goal against Lithuania at Wembley on Sunday.
The Three Lions claimed a 2-0 victory over Lithuania to put Gareth Southgate’s side four points clear at the top of Group F in their World Cup qualifiers.
Jermain Defoe opened the scoring for England before he was replaced by Vardy, who netted the second goal with his first touch of the ball after being just six minutes on the field.
The 30-year-old praised Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana contribution while stating that the most important thing was the positive result to remain at the summit of Group F.
‘It was my first couple of touches and I just finished off a good move and a good layoff from Adam [Lallana],’ Vardy told the Leicester City website.
‘The manager just wanted me to break the lines and keep forcing them back so we could keep getting the ball in the pockets. It managed to work for us.
‘Sides are going to come and sit back and it is up to us to break them down. We have done that twice. The most important thing was getting the win and it keeps us progressing to where we want to be.’
The England striker has now scored a total of four goals in five appearances for the Three Lions since making his first appearance for them during the Euro 2016 campaign.
Vardy has since returned to the East Midlands to resume training ahead of the Foxes Premier League fixture against Stoke City at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.
Kick-off has been scheduled for 16:00.
