Kevin Anderson beat Sam Querrey 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (1) in the final of the New York Open on Sunday to claim his fourth career ATP tour title.
As a result, the 31-year-old South African has moved up to ninth in the ATP rankings.
It was a satisfying victory for Anderson, who had previously lost in 11 finals, including last year’s US Open final against Rafael Nadal.
‘I’ve been to quite a few finals and if it doesn’t go your way, it’s pretty tough to deal with,’ he said. ‘It means a lot to me that I was able to come through it today.’
I ❤️ NY! Thanks for a great week @NewYorkOpen and the cool painting trophy. Thanks everyone for your support! 💪
