Bafana Bafana honoured the late Clive Barker with a memorable 2-1 win against Morocco in their final Africa Cup of Nations Group K qualifier at the FNB Stadium on Saturday evening.
South Africa got off to the perfect start after they took the lead as early as the fifth minute when Percy Tau’s cross led to a howler from Moroccan keeper El-Kajoui, who let the ball role into his own net to make it 1-0 to Bafana.
Themba Zwane should have double the home side’s lead in the 14th minute when he found himself on the end of cross and forced a good save out of Munir.
Bafana captain was called into action in the 17th minute when he produced a great save to deny Hakim Ziyech before Maleh tested Williams three minutes later.
The home side had an opportunity to double their led just before the break but Lepasa’s shot was comfortably saved by the Morocco goalkeeper as the game went into the break 1-0 in favour of South Africa.
Bafana came out guns blazing in the second half and managed to double their leader after Lepasa slotted the ball into the net from close range.
Morocco managed to pulled a goal back in the 61st minute when Ziyech found the back of the net after receiving a good pass by Idrissi.
Hugo Broos opted to made a substitution in the 80th minute as goal scorer Lepasa made way to introduce Bongokuhle Hlongwane.
Teboho Mokoena had a chance to put the game beyond Morocco with three minutes left to play but the midfielder skied his ball into the stands as Bafana held on to clinch a memorable victory over Morocco.
Bafana Bafana go top of Group K with a 2-1 win over the No.1 ranked team on the continent.
