Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter believes his side will deliver when they face Libya in their do-or-die Afcon qualifier on Sunday.
The South African senior men’s National Team have all arrived in the Tunisian capital of Tunis, where they will begin the preparations for the all-important 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifier.
Baxter’s chargers head into the encounter knowing that they only require a point to seal their spot in the continent’s showpiece event in Egypt.
Bafana go into clash without a defeat in the qualifiers, and currently sit second in group E with 9 points behind the Super Eagles of Nigeria, who have already booked their place at the June 2019 fiesta. Libya are on seven points in third position, and will be looking to leapfrog the South Africans with a victory.
Bafana confirmed on Monday that all 24 players have arrived from their different locations and will begin training on Monday
Before departure on Saturday, Baxter said that the team is well aware of the country’s expectations and that they carry the hopes of a very supportive nation on their shoulders.
‘They are carrying the dreams of an upcoming generation of footballers, aspiring to follow in their footsteps as the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar approaches.
‘We believe that everyone has to put in more than 100% this week because we need to bring joy to the nation. However, I believe we have what it takes to deliver come Sunday night,’ said Baxter.
‘We will have a few intense training sessions in Tunis, before driving to Sfax on 21 March 2019, where we will polish up our tactical play before this highly anticipated match this coming Sunday,’ he concluded.
South Africa will take on Libya on Sunday at Sfax at 7pm local time.
