Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos says his side have prepared well enough to take on Morocco in their Africa Cup of Nations last 16 clash at the Stade Laurent Pokou in San-Pedro.
South Africa made it to this stage of the competition after finishing second in Group E with four points from three matches, having won one, drawn one and suffered one defeat.
Morocco, meanwhile advanced to the last 16 after they placed first in Group F with seven points in three games after claiming two wins and a draw.
Broos is confident his side can overcome, having already defeated them in the AFCON qualifier last year.
“We are well prepared. Morocco are coming from a great World Cup run in Qatar and being the best in Africa, so we are aware of what we are up against,” Broos said.
“We beat them in Johannesburg (in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at a vociferous FNB Stadium on 17 June 2023), and that gives us hope and confidence.
“But this is a different time and tournament, and some players are different too. So we cannot think for a minute that it will be the same, certainly not.”
The Bafana mentor has also given an update on the progress of Khuliso Mudau and Mothobi Mvala, who continue to work on their fitness in time for the round of 16 encounter.
“I cannot answer that question, I’m afraid not right now at least. I will get a full medical report after training later on Monday and only then will I know for sure,” Broos said.
