Chelsea moved up to sixth place in the Premier League standings following their 2-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday evening.

Cole Palmer gave Chelsea the lead at the Amex Stadium in the 34th minute with his 22nd league goal of the incredible season.

Palmer skillfully hooked a header past Bart Verbruggen after former Brighton left-back Marc Cucurella chipped in a cross, ignoring the jeers from the supporters.

In the 64th minute, Christopher Nkunku extended Chelsea’s lead with his third league goal of his injury-plagued rookie campaign.

Nkunku deflated Brighton with his finish on Malo Gusto’s cross, and he celebrated by blowing up a blue balloon that was laying on the pitch.

After Joao Pedro knocked Chelsea defender Reece James down in the 88th minute, James kicked the Brighton attacker.

The seventh minute of stoppage time saw Danny Welbeck score from close range, but it was too late to prevent Chelsea from winning four straight league games for the first time since October 2022.

On Sunday, Mauricio Pochettino’s team takes on Bournemouth with the knowledge that a draw will secure a spot in Europe. If they win and Tottenham loses at Sheffield United, fifth place will still be up for grabs.
