Chelsea have completed the signing of World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez from Benfica for a British-record €121 million ($131 million).

The 22-year-old midfielder was named the Best Young Player of the World Cup because of how well he played for Argentina in Qatar.

The previous record was £100 million, which was paid by Manchester City to Aston Villa for Jack Grealish in 2021.

Fernandez didn’t start playing for the Portuguese giants until July of last year, when he joined for a reported £10 million.

He has agreed to work for the company for the next eight and a half years, until 2031.

Since Todd Boehly’s group bought Chelsea at the end of last season, they have spent hundreds of millions of dollars. They hope that this extra spending will help the club move up from 10th place in the Premier League.
