Kaizer Chiefs had to settle for a point after playing to a 1-1 draw against Stellenbosch FC at the Orlando Stadium on Sunday evening, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.

Ernst Middendorp’s side came into this encounter following a 3-1 defeat to Bloemfontein Celtic at the ABSA Tuks Stadium on 19 August.

Meanwhile, Steve Barker’s men managed to claim back-to-back victories in their two previous games against Golden Arrows and Cape Town City, respectively.

Amakhosi came out with intent in the opening exchanges of the game and had a chance to break the deadlock when Reeve Frosler found space before firing an effort at goal but Stellies keeper Lee Langeveldt did well to get down to make the save.

Ernst Middendorp was forced to make a change mid-way through the half when Leonardo Castro was replaced by Samir Nurkovic after sustaining an injury.

Siyabonga Ngezana came close to handing Amakhosi the lead in the 25th minute as he’s glancing header narrowly missed the far post after latching on to a Bernard Parker corner.

With their first real chance at goal Stellies took the lead five minutes later when Ashley du Perez played a ball into the area before Lelethu Skelem guided his glancing header into the net.

Stellenbosch held on to their lead over Chiefs as they went into the half time break with a one-goal lead.

Middendorp opted to make a triple change after the restart as Zuma, Kambole and Moleko came on to replace Ntshangase, Billiat and Ntiya-Ntiya, respectively.

Amakhosi nearly levelled matters in the 56th minute when Kambole unleashed a strike from distance but Langeveldt was up for the challenge.

Chiefs did managed to level matters in the 68th minute when Lazarous Kambole finally got his first goal first the Soweto giants.

Stellenbosch nearly took the lead for the second time in the game after 86 minutes but Du Preez hit the side netting.

Neither side were able to find the winning goal in the closing stages of the game as they shared the spoils at the Orlando Stadium.
