Bernard Parker celebrates his goal with teammate Leonardo Castro of Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs got back to winning ways as they edged Highlands Park 3-2 in their Absa Premiership clash at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday evening.

Chiefs came into the game desperate to pick up the three points as they looked to lift themselves from the unfamiliar seventh position they were in before the kick-off.

The ninth-placed Lions of the North, on the other hand, had been enjoying a successful return to the PSL as they sat just three points behind the Soweto giants before the game, and were targeting another famous scalp.

Chiefs, who were without the injured Khama Billiat, started slowly as the visitors showed all the early intentions with Ryan Rae and Lindokuhle Mbatha both missing big chances in the opening 15 minutes.

The Glamour Boys then began to stamp their authority on the game, with Hendrick Ekstein and George Maluleka controlling the pace of the game for the home side.

The home side then grabbed the lead in the 38th minute as Bernard Parker was on hand in the box to stroke home after some lovely buildup play by Ekstein.

Highlands, however, hit back quickly, as just seven minutes later Bevan Fransman rose highest before sending his header past Daniel Akpeyi in the Chiefs goal.

1-1 at the break with the game firmly in the balance after 45 minutes.

Chiefs came out firing at the start of the second stanza, and it took them only four minutes to hit the front as Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya whipped in an inch=perfect ball, finding the run of Leonardo Castro and leaving the Colombian with a tap-in.

Ernst Middendorp’s men then thought they had wrapped up the game when Dumisani Zuma got on the end of a long ball over the top before firing past the keeper with 71 minutes gone.

Highlands, however, got a goal back six minutes later as Lesenya Ramoraka fired past Akpeyi after some dodgy defending again at the back by the Amakhosi.

Owen Da Gama’s side, though, couldn’t find a way past Chiefs as the Amakhosi got back to winning ways.
