Kaizer Chiefs announced that they have parted ways with Namibia goalkeeper Virgil Vries with immediate effect.
The 28-year-old still had two years remaining on his contract with Amakhosi, but given his poor form for the club this season, Chiefs opted to release the shot-stopper as they begin their preparations for next season.
Vries became the fourth player to part ways with Chiefs in one week after Amakhosi released the likes of Hendrick Ekstein, Gustavo Paez and Khotso Malope.
The former Baroka goalkeeper leaves the club, having made eight appearances across all competitions while conceding six goals and picking up four clean sheets in the process.
The Namibian international went on to thank Chiefs for giving him the opportunity to don the famous Black and Gold of Amakhosi. ‘It’s been a pleasure and a great experience to don the Kaizer Chiefs jersey. I thank everyone for their support during my stay at the club.’

Amakhosi released the following statement on Vries’ departure:
‘Kaizer Chiefs have continued with the process of closing off the season with an announcement about goalkeeper Virgil Vries leaving the club.’
The club confirmed that negotiations with the Namibian goal-inder were concluded on Tuesday afternoon.
Virgil Vries joined Chiefs on 1 July 2018, and entered into a mutual termination and release agreement on 30 April.
The club thanked Vries for his contribution and wished him all the best in his future endeavours as he prepares for the upcoming Cosafa and Africa Cup of Nations tournaments with the Namibian national team.
