Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have avoided each other in the 2019 edition of the Telkom Knockout Cup after the draw on Wednesday.

The TKO draw for the 2019-20 season was conducted in Randburg, Johannesburg, and will be contested by the 16 clubs in the Absa Premiership.

Chiefs will take on Cape Town City at Cape Town Stadium in the headline clash in the opening round, while Pirates will host Stellenbosch at the Orlando Stadium.

Meanwhile, Sundowns will welcome Amazulu to Loftus Versfeld Stadium, while defending champions Baroka were drawn against recently crowned MTN8 champions SuperSport United.

Telkom, which has been an official sponsor of the tournament for 13 consecutive years, will be giving away daily cash prizes to the value of R1 million.

PSL acting Chief Executive Mato Madlala said she expects the 2019 edition of the Telkom Knockout to produce more magic and to once again be the point of discussion amongst football fans from October to December.

Gugu Mthembu, Telkom Executive for Brand and Product Segments said: ‘All hands are on deck and we are ready to see drama unfold on the soccer field. There is a lot on the cards for Telkom customers and we promise an amazing tournament this season.’

The knockout competition is set to kick off on the weekend of the 19-20 October, while the final will be played on 14 December with the venue yet to be confirmed.
