Cape Town City have confirmed the signing of former Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United striker Kermit Erasmus on a three-and-a-half year deal.
Benni McCarthy’s side have made massive strides in their bid to end their goal-scoring woes this season with the signing of Erasmus, who was last on the books of Vitoria Setubal in Portugal following a brief spell in Sweden.
The former Bafana Bafana international is said to have parted ways with Swedish club AFC Eskilstuna and will be eligible to join the Citizens as a free agent at the end of the month.
The 28-year-old has managed to get around the Fifa rule restricting players from competing for three clubs in a single season due to the fact that the Swedish season runs from March to November.
Erasmus was introduced to his new teammates on Tuesday night, following City’s 1-1 draw with Chippa United.
McCarthy will be hoping that Erasmus’ introduction can end their dismal goal-scoring form in the league, which has seen them score a mere 17 goals in their 13 games played.
Erasmus has netted 32 goals in the Absa Premiership for the likes of SuperSport and Pirates.
In other news, City have reportedly parted ways with striker Tokelo Rantie, who made a big-money move to the club in September, but failed to register a single appearance, with reports suggesting that the club has concerns over the former Bournemouth striker’s drinking habits.
