Orlando Pirates were forced to share the spoils with Cape Town Spurs after playing out to a 1-1 draw at the Orlando Stadium in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday evening.

The Buccaneers showed their intent early on and nearly took the lead in the fifth minute but Thabiso Monyane hit the post with his effort.

Pirates eventually took the lead in the 12th minute when Relebohile Mofokeng curled his effort into the bottom corner to make it 1-0.

Spurs had a big chance to level matters just before the break but Ashley Cupido could not get his footing right to slot the ball home.

Pirates held on to their one-goal lead as the game went into the half time break.

Jose Riveiro opted to make a substitution at the restart bringing on Lesedi Kapinga for Karim Kimvuidi, while Ernst Middendorp replaced Cupido with Boitumelo Radiopane.

Spurs came out the better side in the second half and showed more intent while Pirates tried to find their feet.

The Urban Warriors did managed to find the equalising goal with 15 minutes to play when Gadiel Micheal unleashed a powerful strike to beat Pirates keeper Sipho Chaine.

Neil Boshoff came to his side’s rescue on two occasions to deny both Kapinga and Xoki respectively in quick succession.

The Buccaneers thought they should have been awarded a penalty in stoppage-time when new signing Denwin Farmer found Lepasa inside the area but the referee ruled against awarding a spot-kick.

Neither side were able to find the winning goal after 90 minutes of play as they settled for a point each at the Orlando Stadium.
