Marumo Gallants have confirmed that world football governing body Fifa has officially lifted their ban on registering new players.

The Fifa ban was imposed on the club following a dispute related to Venezuelan attacker Gustavo Paerz.

The club had failed to compensate the striker for prematurely terminating his contract in 2020, shortly after he signed with Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandial (TTM), which later became the current Marumo Gallants FC.

Following the failure to compensate Paez, Gallants was handed a three-year transfer ban on registering new players.

The Limpopo-based outfit appealed the ban, which was inherited from the former TTM FC but, after lengthy discussions, Gallants and Paez reached a settlement. This resulted in the lifting of the ban, officially confirmed in a letter to the club by Fifa this week.

Commenting on the issue, Gallants chairman Abram Sello said: “We are relieved that the matter has been amicably resolved and that we will be able to plan for the next season.”

The Gallants are currently defending champions of the Nedbank Cup, having made it through to the final round of this year’s competition. They will take on recently crowned DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the final, on 28 May in Rustenburg, as they look to defend their title.
