Mamelodi Sundowns cruised to a comfortable 5-2 hammering of Al Ahly in the Caf Champions League Group B match in a thrilling encounter at Loftus Versveld Stadium on Saturday.
Sundowns scored via goals from Marcelo Allende, Themba Zwane, Teboho Mokoena, and Peter Shalulile (two), while Al Ahly scored via goals from Mohamed Sherif and Percy Tau.
Allende opened the scoring in the fourth minute for Sundowns, but Sherif equalized the score in the thirteenth.
Zwane restored Sundowns’ lead in the 24th minute, and Mokoena made it 3-1 five minutes before halftime.
Al Ahly’s Tau scored past Ronwen Williams in the 60th minute to make the score 2-2, but a late brace from Shalulile secured the victory for Sundowns.
With 10 points from their first four matches, Sundowns are once again atop Group B’s standings.
