Everton have sacked manager Frank Lampard after spending less than a year in charge at the struggling Premier League club.
In January 2022, Everton hired Lampard to replace Rafael Benitez as manager. However, when Benitez left, Everton was in 19th place in the table.
Everton lost to West Ham by a score of 2-0 on Saturday. This was their ninth loss in their last 12 Premier League games, putting them on the same number of points as the team at the bottom of the table, Southampton.
Farhad Moshiri, the owner of Everton, has supported Lampard in the past.
But Everton’s easy loss to West Ham was the last straw for Moshiri, who was at the game for the first time in 14 months to watch Everton play.
“Everton Football Club can confirm that Frank Lampard has left his post as senior men’s first team manager today,” a club statement said.
“Everyone at Everton would like to thank Frank and his coaching staff for their service during what has been a challenging 12 months.
“Frank and his team’s commitment and dedication have been exemplary throughout their time at the club, but recent results and the current league position meant this difficult decision had to be taken.
“We wish Frank and all his backroom team well for their future in the game.
“The club has started the process to secure a new manager and will provide updates on the appointment in due course.”
Paul Tait and Leighton Baines will train until Everton gets a new manager. On February 4, Everton will play the Premier League leaders Arsenal.
Everton had to make a decision about Lampard’s future because they are trying to stay in the Premier League for the first time since 1954.
When Lampard joined Everton a year ago, the team was in 16th place and struggling. At first, the former Chelsea and England midfielder seemed like a good choice, as he helped the Merseyside club avoid relegation.
