Enzo Fernandez impressed on his debut despite Chelsea being held to a goalless draw against Fulham at Stamford Bridge on Friday evening.
Enzo Fernandez played his first game for Chelsea after moving from Benfica for £107 million ($132 million) on the last day of the transfer window. He is the most expensive player in the history of British football.
Mykhailo Mudryk also made his debut at Stamford Bridge. Noni Madueke and David Datro Fofana made their Premier League debuts when they came off the bench.
In January, Chelsea spent a record-breaking £300 million on players, bringing the total amount spent on players in their first season under new ownership to over £500 million.
Co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali were in attendance, but will not have been impressed as another chance to close on the top four slipped by.
Potter’s men sit ninth in the table, still nine points adrift of the Champions League places.
“New players are adapting to a new country and a new league. It’s not straightforward. When the price tag is what it is questions will be asked, it’s the nature of the business,” said Potter.
“The decision we took in the window you can see the profile in terms of age. We feel we have a very strong group of players. We have to gel and become a really good team. That’s where the work is.”
When these two teams played each other three weeks ago, Fulham won the west London derby for the first time since 2006.
In their first season back in the top flight, Marco Silva’s team is two points and three spots ahead of their local rivals.
