Kaizer Chiefs defender Luke Fleurs has tragically lost his life after being shot in a hijacking incident on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old was reportedly gunned down in a hijacking in the Florida region of Gauteng in Johannesburg.

Fleurs joined Amakhosi as a free agent in October last year after putting pen to paper on a two-year contract despite not making his debut for the Soweto giants.

Upon joining the Glamour Boys Fleurs said: “There is a great bond here; it has that family feel. I just wanted to get started on the job of winning silverware.

“This is the biggest clubs and I want to help us win things.”

The defender scored two goals and made 72 appearances across all competitions, playing for the likes of Ubuntu Cape Town FC and SuperSport United.

“The police are waiting for information on the incident for now,” SA Police Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo told Sunday World.

“We will comment further on the matter as soon as we gather the details thereof.”

Kaiser Chiefs are yet to make a public statement.

SportsClub would like to send their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late Luke Fleurs.
