Kaizer Chiefs confirmed on Friday afternoon that they have parted ways with manager Giovanni Solinas and assistant coach Patrick Mabedi.
Amakhosi have struggled to find consistency since Solinas’s arrival, and after another loss on Tuesday as the Soweto giants lost 2-1 to Zimamoto FC of Zanzibar in the Caf Confederation Cup, the Chiefs hierarchy has decided to act.
Chiefs may have advanced to the next round of the Caf Confed cup with a 5-2 aggregate score after the 4-0 win in the first leg in Port Elizabeth last week, but the defeat in midweek has been indicative of their season as a whole. The Glamour Boys have already suffered damaging exits in the MTN 8 and Telkom Knockout semi-finals.
Solinas has also struggled in the league. The Italian coach may have picked up the Absa Premiership Coach of the Month award for September after a run of four wins in a row. However, inconsistencies either side of that run saw the Glamour Boys sit in a lowly 11th on the Absa Premiership log with only four wins from 14 matches, and sitting on 18 points.
The club made the announcement via their twitter account on Friday afternoon when they revealed the parties had mutually agreed on an amicable termination of Solinas’ contract, with immediate effect.
