A goal from Victor Letsoalo was enough to earn Royal AM a narrow 1-0 victory over Kaizer Chiefs at the Chatsworth Stadium in the DStv Premiership on Sunday afternoon.
Arthur Zwane only made one change from their win over Sekhukhune United as Keagan Dolly came in to replace Happy Mashiane, while the likes of Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Khama Billiat, Lebogang Manyama and Cole Alexander all returned to the squad.
Amakhosi got off to a good start and saw more possession of the ball in the opening exchanges of the game.
Chiefs’ first real chance of the game came in the 17th minute and nearly took the lead but Leonardo Castro’s effort hit the woodwork before Nyame made the save from the rebound.
Castro had another chance to break the deadlock in the 25th minute but the Colombian couldn’t connect with Dolly’s low cross across the face of goal.
Royal were then awarded a penalty in the 37th minute. Victor Letsoalo then stepped up and made no mistake from the penalty spot.
The home side had a chance to double their lead in the 41st minute but Daniel Akpeyi made a great save to deny them before they hit the side netting moments later as the game went into the half time break.
Blom came to his sides rescue early in the second half when he took a crucial touch on the ball to clear the ball away from danger.
Amakhosi had a chance to level matters in the 52nd minute but Ngcobo’s cross was too fast for Dolly as the ball sailed inches wide of goal.
The Soweto giants made their first substitution just after the hour mark as Castro was taken off and replaced by Khama Billiat, who made his return.
Chiefs should have found the equalising goal in the 69th minute but Ngcobo couldn’t find the back of the net after connecting with Billiat’s cross.
Letsoalo nearly completed his brace and Royal’s second goal but the in-form striker hit the crossbar with his effort at goal.
Amakhosi made a double substitution n the 76th minute as Manyama and Nange came on for Parker and Ngcobo, respectively.
Chiefs pressed forward in the closing stages of the game as they went in search of an equaliser but Royal held on to claim all three points.
