Orlando Pirates forward Thembinkosi Lorch has confirmed he received a number of offers for his services from clubs abroad during the recent transfer window.
Plenty of speculation surrounded his future during the transfer window following his exploits at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Clubs from Belgium and France were looking to lure him away from Pirates, but the 26-year-old insists that an agreement could not be reached.
‘I think I had the offers from overseas, but I think the offers were not good for both the team and me,’ Lorch confirmed.
‘I have a contract with Pirates, so I have to focus and do my best [for the club]. I’ve heard some coaches telling me that I have to score and do what.
‘No, I’ve done my part last season, I don’t have to prove [anything to] anyone. I just have to play my football and help the team win games.’
Speaking on moving abroad in the future, Lorch said he will only leave if the club receives an offer suiting Pirates, but insists is focused on working hard and doing well for the Buccaneers.
‘You know, in South Africa every player wants to go overseas, especially at my age. I just have to work hard because God’s time is always right.
‘If the offer is good for the club then they have to release me. But for now, I have a contract with the team, and I have to honour and respect that.
‘It doesn’t matter where [the offers come from], as long as I play overseas with the best players and compete with them.
‘Not to say in SA there is not good players, but I’ve done my part. Since I’m still here, I just have to prove I am the best.’
