Kaizer Chiefs have officially confirmed the signing of former SuperSport United defender Luke Fleurs.

The 23-year-old joins the club as a free agent after parting ways with SuperSport United.

The South African under-23 international has since put pen to paper on a two-year contract, with an option for a further season.

The classy defender has been training with Amakhosi since he left SuperSport United. Chiefs were able to sign him because he wasn’t tied to any other team during the transfer window.

“We are very excited and happy to have Luke join us. The young man has great technical abilities and I think he will fit really well into how we want to approach the game and the kind of football we would like to play going forward,” Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr. told the club’s official website.

“Of course, being a youth international and having experienced the Olympics, as well as having many PSL games under his belt, we believe his attributes will benefit the team.”

Now that he is officially part of the team, Fleurs, who looks very happy, says he is ready to do his part to bring back the glory days for the Amakhosi Faithful.

“I feel so pleased to sign because I always wanted to be part of the Glamour Boys,” he says with a broad smile, “There is a great bond here; it has that family feel. I just wanted to get started on the job of winning silverware. This is the biggest Club and I want to help us win things.”

“We have been training well and I am used to the set up,” he continues, “Results haven’t been going our way lately but we will turn it around through hard work, because there is great talent here and we will get it right.”

The Club will be glad to have a good operator like 23-year-old Fleurs available for selection, since he has already spent some time training at the Village. Motaung thinks that his promising growth will get him involved soon.

“We are looking to get everyone on board as soon as possible,” he says, “and we know that Luke is fit and raring to go, so we will leave it up to the technical staff to make that call, but we are hoping to see him playing for us soon.”
