Orlando Pirates captain Innocent Maela has reacted to reaching the 200 game milestone for the Buccaneers.

The 32-year-old came through the academy ranks at Pirates and also spent some time at Witbank Spurs, Thanda Royal Zulu and Richards Bay.

The Pirates captain has now made 200 appearances across all competition for the Soweto giants and scored six while assisting a further 12.

Jose Riveiro’s chargers moved one step closer to booking their place in the CAF Champions League group stages following their 2-0 win in the first leg of their second preliminary round clash at the National Stadium on Saturday.

Maela is grateful to Pirates for setting him on this journey and also touched on his side going into their CAF Champions League return leg at the Orlando Stadium this coming Saturday.

“It’s a special game for me, amazing, who would’ve thought 200 caps for the club it’s a big milestone and I’m so proud of myself, I’m proud of the journey I have taken and hopefully many more,” Maela told Pirates official X page.

“Its an unbelievable feeling, especially coming as an academy player, thank God, Gods grace.

“it was extra special for me because we won away from home now we go through to the second leg with confidence. Thanks to the team, thanks to the gents its going to be a special evening for me, thank you.”
