A first-half goal from Luvuyo Memela inspired AmaZulu to a 1-0 victory over Horoya in their Caf Champions League Group B encounter at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday evening.

Usuthu got off to a bright start and produced the first chance at goal after eight minutes when Xola Mlambo fired an effort at goal ,but put too much power on his shot and saw it sail high and over target.

AmaZulu had another chance to take the lead in the 19th minute after Augustine Mulenga skilfully made his way into the Horoya penalty area with a threatening attack that resulted in a corner kick to Usuthu.

The home side missed an opportunity to break the deadlock in the 28th minute when Mlambo played a ball through to Abraham Majok but the Usuthu attacker was caught offside.

AmaZulu’s persistence paid just after the half-hour mark as they eventually broke the deadlock when Luvuyo Memela found the back of the net with a classy finish after latching on to a superb pass from Mulenga.

However, Usuthu managed to hold on to their lead as the game went into half time.

The home side should have doubled their lead early in the second half but Memela fired his effort wide from distance.

Usuthu looked to break down the Horoya defence after the hour mark but are unable to penetrate the Horoya defence.

AmaZulu opted to bring on fresh legs just after the 80th minute as Monare, Sikhakhane and Ntuli replaced Buchanan, Zulu and Memela, respectively.

However, Usuthu managed to hold on to their lead until the final whistle to secure their first win in Group B and all three points on home soil.
