Kaizer Chiefs duo Ernst Middendorp and Daniel Akpeyi have been named Coach and Player of the Month, respectively, for September and October.
Middendorp managed to retain his Coach of the Month award he picked up in August after leading his side to four wins in their last five games during September and October.
‘I’m grateful for this award. It is a reflection of the work we have been doing. It is not about me but the technical team, the players and Kaizer Chiefs,’ Middendorp told the media.
‘There is no break. We will keep on working. If we are in a good mood we will train on December 24 and 25. Maybe we rest. Or maybe we train. There is no break.’
Meanwhile, Akpeyi picked up the Player of the Month award after keeping three clean sheets in his last four games, while conceding just one goal in the process.
‘It is [award] a big surprise to me but it also shows the importance of putting effort forward in whatever you do. I give credit to the technical team who have been patient with me,’ Akpeyi said.
‘I’m settling in, I’m taking each game as it comes. Khune is a good keeper, I’m just grateful for the opportunity from the coach. It’s a healthy competition in that department [keeper]. I’m just happy to be improving all the time.’
The Glamour Boys stretched their lead at the top of the Absa Premiership table to 10 points and extended their winning run to seven games in the league after their 4-0 victory over Stellenbosch FC on Wednesday evening.
