Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena says he should win the DStv Premiership Coach of the Year award but believes Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker is a strong contender for the award.
The Brazilians are currently on a 52 games unbeaten run in the DStv Premiership following their 1-0 win over Stellenbosch FC at Athlone Stadium over the weekend.
Sundowns will look to extend their unbeaten run even further when they take on TS Galaxy at the Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday.
Mokwena says he deserves the Coach of the Season award after guiding Sundowns to their seventh straight league title.
“The coach of the season should be me – that’s what I think,” Mokwena said as per SuperSport.
“I think the coach of the season should be the coach who wins the league but I can’t not give lots of compliments to the work that Stevie [Barker] has done at Stellenbosch.
“He deserves incredible plaudits for the work he has done there and many other colleagues [do too]. There has been very good work that has been done by someone like Jose Riveiro.
“But without sounding arrogant, the coach of the season in my opinion would be me and I have no doubts about it.”
