Orlando Pirates have officially confirmed that midfielder Nkanyiso Zungu has been suspended after being charged by police this past Sunday evening.

The Buccaneers confirmed that the midfielder was charged at the Moffatview police station.

Pirates also revealed that the 26-year-old has been suspended by the club pending an investigation but they were unable to elaborate any further on the matter as it’s “in the hands of the authorities”.

Pirates said in a statement that the 26-year-old was suspended pending an investigation but did not elaborate on his transgression.

Zungu has struggled for game time at Pirates this campaign and has only managed to feature twice, once in the Caf Confederation Cup and once in the DStv Premiership.

The Sea Robbers released the following statement:

“Orlando Pirates Football Club can confirm that midfielder Nkanyiso Zungu has been charged at the Moffatview Police Station this evening.

“The Club suspends Mr Zungu pending an investigation.

“As this matter is currently in the hands of the authorities, the Club is unable to make further comment until this process is complete.”
