Orlando Pirates have confirmed that defender Paseka Mako is in a “stable condition” after he was involved in a horror clash during the Buccaneers’ goalless draw with Baroka FC on Tuesday.
Mako collided in stoppage time with teammate Richard Ofori after the Pirates goalkeeper attempted to clear the ball. The defender immediately fell to the floor, prompting referee Masizole Bamiso to call medics on to the field.
Ofori supported his unconscious teammate while he was receiving medical attention, before he was rushed by ambulance to the nearest hospital to determine the extent of his injuries.
The Buccaneers have since confirmed that Mako is in a stable condition, showing no signs of a skull fracture although he sustained fractures to his face and nose.
“Following the emergency injury involving defender Paseka Mako in the DStv Premiership clash against Baroka FC last night, Orlando Pirates Football Club can confirm that the 28-year-old is in a stable condition,” the Pirates statement read.
“The doctor has revealed that CT scan results have shown no signs of skull fracture or any brain haemorrhage, however, the player has sustained fractures to the face and nose.
“He will remain in high care and will be assessed by the neurosurgeon again this morning.”
