Orlando Pirates star Thembinkosi Lorch has been handed a suspended jail sentence and fined R100 000 for assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

The National Prosecuting Authority says that on September 7, 2020, Lorch was found guilty of assaulting Fundishwa Nokuphiwa Mathithibala, who was his girlfriend at the time.

He was found guilty of assault with the intent to do serious bodily harm by the court.

Lorch appeared in the Randburg magistrate’s court on Tuesday morning and received a three-year prison sentence, which is suspended for five years after he was found guilty of assault of his former girlfriend.

The court also ruled that the forward has been declared unfit to possess a firearm under the Firearms Control Act.

The 30-year-old should not be convicted of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm during his suspended five years.

The Randburg magistrate court also ordered the Buccaneers star to pay R100 000 to gender-based violence group, People Opposing Women Abuse.

Lorch is expected to pay R50 000 on Tuesday and will be expected to settle the remaining balance of R10 000 every month.
