Pitso Mosimane guided Al Ahly to the Caf Super Cup trophy following their 6-5 victory over Raja Casablanca in a penalty shoot-out at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Raja got off to the perfect start and broke the deadlock in the 13th minute when Madkour picked out Hamid Ahaddad with a cross inside the penalty area before the loanee fired the ball into the back of the net.
Despite getting off to a lively start, neither side were able to create any clear cut chances in the remaining minutes of the first half as the game went into the half time break 1-0 in favour of Raja.
Mohamed Magdy Afsha produced their first real chance for Ahly in the 65th minute when he unleashed a powerful effort from distance forcing the Raja goalkeeper into making the save to deny the attacker.
Percy Tau should have levelled matters in the 82nd minute when he was played through brilliantly by Mohamed Sherif but the South African’s effort sailed wide of goal.
The Red Eagles eventually levelled matters in stoppage time when Sherif found Afsha inside the penalty area, but his effort was saved before Tau played a pass to Taher Mohamed Taher who made it 1-1 to force the game into extra time.
Neither side were able to find the winning goal in extra time forcing the game to be settled in a penalty shoot-out, which Ahly came out victorious following their 6-5 win in the shoot-out.
