South Africa claimed a seven-wicket first Test win over Bangladesh Thursday to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

In Mirpur, South Africa started with the new ball, and fast bowler Kagiso Rabada concluded with 6-46 as Bangladesh dropped from 283-7 to 307 all out, giving the visitors a 106-run winning goal.

South Africa scored 106-3 in 22 before noon on the fourth day, despite Taijul Islam, a left-arm spinner, taking all the wickets in his 3-43.

Tony de Zorzi struck seven fours and blasted a scorching 41 from 52 balls to take the lead.

Aiden Markram, a fellow opener and interim captain, was out first, bowled for 20 by Taijul.

Hasan Mahmud captured De Zorzi as he attempted to play a huge shot over long-on in the sixteenth over.

Wicketkeeper Litton Das caught David Bedingham behind and he was third out.

Unbeaten on 30, Tristan Stubbs made sure there were no more scares.

Rabada became the fastest bowler to reach 300 Test wickets in the first innings of the match, finishing with 9-72.

On the third ball of the day, a rampaging Rabada inswinger stayed low, causing Nayeem Hasan to leave the game lbw without adding to his overnight total of 16.

In the fourth over, Wiaan Mulder hit Taijul for seven with a heavy edge to Stubbs’ third slip.

Mehidy edged Rabada to Mulder at slip in the following over, falling three runs short of his second Test century.

On the first day, South Africa responded to Bangladesh’s 106 all out with 308 in their first innings, led by Kyle Verreynne’s second Test century.

Bangladesh has never defeated South Africa in a Test match.

On October 29, Chattogram will host the series’ second and last match.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz, an all-rounder, top scored with 97 runs as Bangladesh lost their last three wickets for just 24 runs in less than 30 minutes.
