The Premier Soccer League has announced that the Absa Premiership and GladAfrica Championship will remain suspended due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The league held a board of governors meeting in Kempton Park on Thursday to decide on whether or not to play behind closed doors or to continue the suspension of all football.
The PSL board has since upheld the decision to suspend all football in the country in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
However, PSL chairman Dr Irvin Khoza also confirmed that the board of governors agreed that the 2019-20 season has to finish by no later than 30 June 2020.
‘The board of governors, which was led by all teams of the Premier Divsion and GladAfrica Championsip, resolved that NSL values the lives of our stakeholders. We initially said that we will complete the season by no later than June 30, but we shall remain flexible. We will take all possible measures in line with the State President and national government,’ said Khoza.
‘Let’s be clear that the league was suspended because of the directive from the president that we must assess the situation – among those directives was the gathering of less than 100 people.
‘We engaged the various ministries to make sure we understand the gravity of the requirements to comply with the president’s directive.’
