According to police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini a man was driving with his gardener when he was attacked at around 6pm by two men who were on motorbikes.
‘He was shot through the window several times and died at the scene,’ Dlamini said as reported by News24.
A case of murder is being investigated by the police and the motive behind the attack is still unknown, Dlamini added.
Batchelor enjoyed a stellar career in the PSL where he won just about every honour on offer during his time with Soweto giants Mamelodi Sundowns, Bidvest Wits, SuperSport United, while he also played in Europe with Belgium outfit Oostende.
The striker, though, was notorious for his off-the-field actions and was dropped from his presenting job in 2007 after an alleged assult.
‘The bottom line is that Mark has been involved in a number of inappropriate incidents and, quite honestly, he cannot be seen to conduct himself in that way,’ SuperSport‘s Vaughn Bishop said at the time of the incident.
