Peter Shalulile bagged another hat-trick as Mamelodi Sundowns hammered Golden Arrows 6-0 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in the DStv Premiership on Tuesday afternoon.
Sundowns got off to the perfect start as they managed to take the lead in the 19th minute when Gaston Sirino slotted the ball into an empty net after Nkosingiphile Ngcobo failed to clear Mosa Lebua’s free kick.
Shalulile doubled his side’s lead five minutes later when he latched on to a corner from Lyle Lakay to guide the ball into the back of the net with a free header.
The Namibia striker completed his brace in the 27th minute when he found the bottom corner to break the 20-goal barrier, which was last achieved by Siyabonga Nomvethe during the 2011-12 season.
Arrows came close to pulling a goal back on the stroke of half time, but Knox Mutizwa’s free kick took a deflection before narrowly missing the top corner.
Sundowns picked up where they left off in the first half as Shalulile completed his brace when he found the bottom corner after receiving a cut-back pass from Lakay inside the box.
The visitors then made it 5-0 in the 74th minute after striker Pavol Safranko found the back of the net at the near post after he was set up by Zwane.
Substitute Kermit Erasmus put the game to bed in the 85th minute when he added Sundowns’ sixth from the rebound as Sundowns held on to secure all three points after the final whistle.
