Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi has confirmed that Bolivia midfielder Erwin Saavedra has been registered on the club’s roster.
The 25-year-old is yet to arrive at Chloorkop to begin his journey with Sundowns as he is currently away on international duty with Bolivia in the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.
Saavedra has now become Sundowns’ third signing during the January transfer window after they captured the services of Surprise Ralani and Teboho Mokoena.
Mngqithi said the midfielder has completed his move to Chloorkop and will form part of their Caf Champions League squad.
“Saavedra we have signed,” Mngqithi told the media during the launch of the Nedbank Cup last Thursday evening.
“We have registered him for Caf as well. So, we have sealed that one. He is a very good football player, by the way.”
Mngqithi also praised new signing Teboho Mokoena, who signed a four-and-a-half-year contract after parting ways with Tshwane rivals Supersport United.
“He brings goals because we have got lots of good midfielders but it is also important to add a midfielder that adds numbers in terms of assists and goals, and Mokoena is that kind of midfielder that will help you in set pieces, his passing range is very good from short, medium to long [passes].”
“He is a very hardworking midfielder, very disciplined, very focused, a national team player that has the responsibility to play week in and out because when you are playing for the national team you are not only fighting to play for Sundowns, you are also fighting to not lose your place in the national team,” concluded Mngqithi.
