Mamelodi Sundowns have gone 13 DStv Premiership games without conceding a goal, despite playing out to a goalless draw with Cape Town City at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.

The Brazilians made four changes after their win over Marumo Gallants, with Denis Onyango, Thabiso Kutumela, Thapelo Morena and Haashim Domingo named in the starting lineup.

The Citizens, meanwhile, welcomed back Fagrie Lakay and Nathan Fasika, while Taahir Goedeman was handed his first start for City.

Sundowns showed their intent early on and nearly grabbed the lead in the sixth minute, but Haashim Domingo’s first-time effort from the edge of the box was well saved by Hugo Marques.

The visitors should’ve taken the lead after 15 minutes when Peter Shalilule cut down the left wing before putting a cross into the box, which deflected off the defender and hit the side netting.

Mosa Lebusa came to his side’s rescue in the 20th minute when he made a fantastic block to deny a shot from City playmaker Mduduzi Mdantsane.

City had a great chance to break the deadlock just after the half-hour mark when Mpho Makola played a sublime pass into the path of Fagrie Lakay, who fired at goal only for Denis Onyango to deny his effort.

Domingo should’ve taken the lead in the 35th minute with his free kick destined for the top corner, but the City keeper did well to prevent his strike from finding the back of the net.

Shalulile entered the spectacular zone in the 41st minute with his acrobatic effort but the in-form striker failed to hit target as it fell to Lunga, who also couldn’t keep his strike on target as the game went into half time.

Domingo had the first shot of the second half just like he did in the first, when he drove his effort towards goal only to be denied by the City shotstopper.

Sundowns came close to taking the lead in the 50th minute when Kutumela picked out Lunga with a free kick, but the attacker saw his effort sail just wide of goal.

Kutumela had a great chance to hand Sundowns the lead in the 68th minute but his curling effort from outside the box sailed inches wide of goal.

Goedman had the best chance of the game in the 70th minute when he fired his shot into the bottom left corner, but saw his shot brilliantly saved by Onyango.

Sundowns opted to make a double change seven minutes later as Divine Lunga and Thapelo Morena were replaced by Lyle Lakay and Mothobi Mvala, respectively.

The visitors had a chance for victory in stoppage time when Neo Maema unleashed a strike from outside the box, but his effort was saved by Onyango as both sides shared the spoils in Cape Town.
