Mamelodi Sundowns were forced to settle for a point after Baroka came back to earn a 1-1 draw at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Monday evening.

The Brazilians made two changes from their win over Al Hilal Omdurman in the Caf Champions League this past Friday as Surprise Ralani and Teboho Mokoena came in to replace Gaston Sirino and Rivaldo Coetzee.

Sundowns should have opened the scoring inside the 20th minute but Lyle Lakay saw his free kick crash off the woodwork.

Baroka were then awarded a penalty minutes later after Rushine De Reuck was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area. Mashweu Mphahlele stepped up but blazed his spot kick over the crossbar.

Lakay had another chance in the 38th minute but once again saw his powerful effort crash off the woodwork.

Sundowns were then dealt a blow three minutes from half time as Pavol Safranko was stretchered off the field and replaced with Erwin Saavedra.

Neither side were able to break the deadlock in the first 45 minutes as the game went into the break locked at 0-0.

Lakay’s persistence finally paid off early in the second stanza when he handed Sundowns the lead with a superb free kick to find the back of the net.

Sundowns then made a double substitution after 61 minutes as Mokoena and Ralani was replaced by Mothobi Mvala and Lesedi Kapinga.

Lakay continued to create attempts at goal as he managed to find the woodwork for the third time in the match six minutes later.

The Brazilians made their final substitutions in the 80th minute as Peter Shalulile and Themba Zwane was taken off and replaced by Neo Maema and Grant Kekana.

However, Baroka managed to snatch a point in the final minutes after Richard Mbulu found the back of the net with a first-time volley to earn his side a 1-1 draw in Polokwane.
