Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau has been named the Proximus League Player of the Season in his first season with second division side Union Saint-Gilloise.
Tau picked up the Absa Premiership Footballer of the Season last year after a stunning season for Mamelodi Sundowns. This aided the 24-year-old in sealing a move to English Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion.
Tau could not secure a work permit for the UK, however, due to Bafana’s lowly ranking, and was subsequently farmed out on loan to Belgian second tier team Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.
The striker reportedly struggled to adapt initially, but put his head down, worked hard and has been richly rewarded for a stunning debut season in Europe. He featured in 34 matches across all competitions for his club, scoring 13 goals while also providing 13 assists.
I’d like to say thank you to everyone who voted for me. A big thank you to @UnionStGilloise players and staff for the achievement,I share with y’all. To the supporters, thank you for warm welcome to the Club. ❤️🇿🇦🇧🇪 pic.twitter.com/djkSYUbCcM

Tau would be hoping to take a step up in his career next season, but will first have to focus on playing for his country in the upcoming 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt next month.
The former Sundowns man will be looking to continue his fine form in green and gold, and help guide Bafana to a successful Afcon that could in turn impact where he ends up playing his football next season.
