Cape Town City have confirmed that veteran midfielder Teko Modise will retire from professional football when the current season comes to an end this weekend.
This means that Modise will play his final match of his career when the Citizens travel to Thohoyandou, where they take on Black Leopards on Saturday afternoon.
The 36-year-old is one of the most accomplished footballers in South African, and has represented the likes of SuperSport United, Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and Cape Town City, and has won several major trophies during his illustrious career, while making over 50 appearances Bafana Bafana.

‘Going to training today, it was different, even though I use the same route that I take every day. When I got there, I didn’t know whether to laugh, smile or cry. I always wanted to be a professional footballer, it was the only place where I’m happy, and when I started going up and getting recognised, I wanted to be the Doctor Khumalo of this era. I knew that one day this day will come, and I can say, proudly so, that I have achieved everything that I wanted to achieve as a footballer, and to hope that in a couple of years from now someone will be sitting right here and will be able to say that they got inspired by my career path,’ Modise said on Cape Town City’s official Twitter account.
Teko Modise will play his last game on Saturday as he bids farewell to the game. CTCFC would like to thank him for everything he has given to the club and South African football.
