Uthongathi FC have accused GladAfrica Championship leaders Ajax Cape Town of trying to bribe their players in the last meeting between the two teams.
The Urban Warriors went on to beat Uthongathi 3-1 a the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium over the weekend to move one point clear of the Cane Cutters at the summit of the league standings.
However, Uthongathi’s media officer Nkosinathi Chili revealed that several players were reportedly offered money beforehand to throw the game.
‘Yes, it’s true, we got that from the players,’ Chili told KickOff.com.
‘We said to them it’s all about honesty, we won’t entertain on who is calling who. We also told them they are contracted and have to fight for the club and their future.
‘Cheslyn Jampies confirmed with us those allegations that he was offered R100,000 and was told to be loyal to his city as he’s from Cape Town.’
Chili insisted that the club will not open a case against Ajax with the Premier Soccer League (PSL) as it will not change the outcome of the match.
‘As management, we agreed not to open a case as we want to focus on getting promotion, we don’t want anything that can disturb us,’ Chili added.
