Vinicius Junior scored twice as Real Madrid came from behind to secure a thrilling 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday.

The Brazilian capitalised on two mistakes made by Kim Min-jae, the defender for Bayern. First, he outran him with speed and beat goalkeeper Manuel Neuer with a shot. Later, the South Korean fouled Rodrygo in the box, and Vinicius scored the penalty that followed.

After Lucas Vazquez tripped Jamal Musiala in the box, England captain Harry Kane scored a penalty of his own, beating custodian Andriy Lunin early in the second half.

Leroy Sane, a teammate, had cancelled off Vinicius’ first goal with a thundering effort inside the near post minutes earlier.

After Bayern failed to capitalise on their early dominance, Vinicius was put in behind by a deft Toni Kroos through pass, and the game changed hands.

Bayern was behind against the run of play despite having six shots and more than 60% of the action in the opening 20 minutes, with Kane and Sane having the best of the opportunities.

However, a brutal four-minute stretch in the second half changed the course of the match and gave the German powerhouses their momentum back.

They exerted pressure on Real and might have regretted not taking an earlier lead.

Real Madrid was able to retake the lead in the 83rd minute when Kim made the careless error of pulling Rodrygo’s shirt. They will host the second leg at Bernabeu Stadium on Wednesday.
