South Africa, Zimbabwe, Tanzania and Benin all secured their spots for the 2019 African Cup of Nations (Afcon) after the final round of qualifying concluded on Sunday.

DR Congo 1-0 Liberia

The Democratic Republic of Congo sealed their progression to this year’s finals with a tight 1-0 home win over Liberia.

Cedric Bakambu scored the all-important winner at the start of the second half as the result sees the DRC finish in second in the group with nine points, while Liberia finish third with seven points and will miss out on the tournament.

Zimbabwe 2-0 Congo

Khama Billiat and Knowledge Musona fired their national side to the top spot in Group G and thus securing their spot at the 2019 Afcon.

Billiat fired the hosts into the lead with a superb free kick with 21 minutes played before Musona doubled their advantage 15 minutes later.

Central African Republic 0-0 Guinea

With qualification already secured before the match, Guinea were targeting the one point which would take them top of the group while the CAR where looking to finish the qualification campaign on a high.

A tight game finished 0-0 with the visitors getting the point that they came for.

Tanzania 3-0 Uganda

Uganda had already qualified for the showpiece event heading into the clash, but Tanzania had it all to play for as the battled Lesotho for the second place in the group.

The home side, however, were in fine form as they cruised past their opponents thanks to goals from Simon Msuwa, Erasto Nyoni and Aggrey Morris and qualify for Afcon 2019.

Cape Verde 0-0 Lesotho

Both sides had a shot of securing a spot for the finals in June but knew a win would be needed to have any chance at all.

However, the match was a tight one where neither side did enough to grab the all-important winner and as a result both sides missed out on qualification.

Benin 2-1 Togo

Benin knew prior to kick off that a win over Togo would see them book a ticket for this year’s finals in Egypt.

David Djigla fired the hosts into a lead, but Emmanuel Adebayor thought he had earned a point with an equaliser 20 minutes before time.

Steve Mounie, however, popped up six minutes before time to hand Benin the three points.

Libya 1-2 South Africa

South Africa went into the encounter knowing only a draw was needed to secure their spot at Afcon, but the Libyans were also still within a shout of qualifying if they won the encounter.

After a goalless first half Percy Tau fired his side into the lead with a stunning strike five minutes after the restart.

The Libyans, though, hit back as Ahmad Benali calmly slotted home from the penalty spot with 66 minutes played.

Tau, however, proved to be the hero as he scored another cracking goal to send Bafana Bafana through to the finals in June.
