DR Congo came from a goal down to secure a 1-1 draw against Morocco in their Africa Cup of Nations Group F encounter at the Stade Laurent Pokou in San-Pedro.

Morocco took an early lead thanks to Achraf Hakimi in San-Pedro, which is in the southwest of Ivory Coast. Before halftime, Cedric Bakambu missed a penalty for the Congolese.

But on 76 minutes, substitute Silas from VfB Stuttgart scored the equaliser to make sure that both teams would come away with a point.

Morocco is in first place in Group F with four points after beating Tanzania 3-0 in their first game. DR Congo is in second place with two points after drawing 1-1 with Zambia in their first game.

The other game on Sunday was between Tanzania and Zambia. On Wednesday, Morocco, who made it to the semifinals of the 2022 World Cup, will play Zambia in their last game in the group, with the goal of securing a spot in the knockout stage.

The Atlas Lions beat DR Congo 5-2 overall in a play-off to get into the last World Cup. They took the lead early and looked like they were going to easily win this game.

When Morocco took a corner from the left side, Hakimi was left unguarded. The Paris Saint-Germain full-back duly sent a sidefoot volley low into the goal.

Late in the first half, Selim Amallah was called for handball, and VAR called for a penalty. The Leopards were given the ball, but Galatasaray forward Bakambu’s kick hit the post and missed the target.

Even so, they were still a threat on the break in the second half, and two substitutes helped them tie the game in the last 25 minutes.

For the second game in a row, DR Congo came from behind to tie. Meschack Elia cut the ball back from the right side of the box for Silas to score.

Morocco is only trying to win their second AFCON title and first one since 1976. They still know that beating Zambia next will put them at the top of their group.
