Liverpool striker Sadio Mane got on the score sheet to help Senegal claim a 2-0 victory over Tunisia in their opening Africa Cup of Nations match on Sunday evening.

Tunisia came close to opening the scoring in the second minute when Maloul’s found Akaichi from a free-kick before heading his effort wide of the target from close range.

However, nine minutes into the match and Senegal were awarded when Aymen Abdennour was brought down Cheikhou Kouyate. Sadio Mane stepped up to take the penalty and made no mistake from the spot-kick to convert the penalty.

The Lions of Teranga then doubled their lead in the 30th minute when Kare Mbodji headed the ball into the back of the net from a Mane corner to make it 2-0.

Senegal went into the half time interval with a 2-0 lead over Tunisia but the Eagles struggled to create any clear-cut opportunities in the first half.

In the second half, Mbodji came close to reducing the deficit to one goal in the 69th minute when his strike hit the woodwork.

Senegal goalkeeper Diallo came to his side’s rescue in the 79th minute when he denied Msakni from close range to keep his side’s 2-0 lead in tact.

The Tunisian side dominated proceedings the closing stages of the match as they pressed forward for a goal but struggled to break down the Senegalese defence as Senegal claimed the victory.
