Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams is relishing the chance to lead South Africa to victory over Morocco when the two sides meet in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday, 17 June.
South Africa and Morocco have already qualified for the tournament which is set to be held in the Ivory Coast from January 13 to 11 February 2024.
The South African national team qualifier for the continental tournament after they defeated Liberia 2-1 in March in their penultimate Group K fixture.
Hugo Broos has since announced his 34-man preliminary squad to face Morocco in this dead rubber clash at the FNB Stadium but will trim his squad down before they go into camp on Sunday, 11 June.
Williams, who was named DStv Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season, has expressed his gratitude for continuously being able to represent South Africa on an international stage.
“Being part of the national team is still an amazing feeling and I’m honoured to be representing the country,” Williams told his club’s official website.
“After all this time, it’s still a huge privilege for me to lead the squad. I’m the Captain, so I have the responsibility of leading so many talented football players and big-name players
“The main thing is to go out there and win. I’m looking forward to giving my best performance and for us as a team to challenge ourselves against Morocco, we know it’s going to be a tough game, but we will ensure that we are well prepared for the game.”
