Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro was delighted with his side’s overall performance against Chippa United and to walk away with a positive result.
The Buccaneers kicked off their Betway Premiership campaign with a 2-1 victory over the Chilli Boys at the Orlando Stadium.
Andile Jali’s powerful strike opened the scoring in the 22nd minute for the Chilli Boys.
After Tshegofatso Mabasa tied the game in the 49th minute, Monnapule Saleng scored the winning goal in stoppage time to give the Buccaneers the win and three points.
Riveiro admits that Chippa were a tough team to face but was happy his side fought hard to come back and secure all three points.
“Important points, good to start with a victory. One year ago we started with zero, today with three,” Riveiro told SuperSport TV after the game.
“Chippa is a complicated team because they are big boys, very physical, it’s difficult to contain them. But we managed to come back in the second-half, I think we played good football in some moments.
“We created more than enough chances but in a rush, coming from behind is not a good thing. It’s not a habit that we want to create. We want to start games better and be ourselves, getting the advantage and not like today.”
