Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams hopes his recent success at the CAF Awards will inspire millions of South Africans to “push boundaries” and “never forget your dreams”.

Williams was the only one to secure two awards on the night after claiming the Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year and Men’s Interclub Player of the Year awards.

The shot-stoppaer received the awards after his heroics at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023 to help South Africa secure the bronze medal.

The 32-year-old played a crucial role in helping Mamelodi Sundowns secure their seventh successive league title while keeping a joint record of 11 clean sheets.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank my family, my parents, my two siblings, my partner as well as my kids for being supportive throughout my career,” Williams told his club’s official website.

“Thank you so much to CAF for this recognition. It has been an amazing year for me but I couldn’t have done it alone.

“Thank you to all the players, coaches and the technical staff that have been with me throughout my career.

“I know this win will inspire millions and millions of South Africans to believe in themselves, to push boundaries and never forget your dreams are valid.”
