Bayern Munich has confirmed the signing of Austria international Konrad Laimer, who joins the club on a free transfer from RB Leipzig.
The midfielder has a contract until 2027 with the German champions.
Laimer’s contract with the German Cup winners ended in the summer, and since January 1, the midfielder has been free to talk to other teams.
Laimer played 190 games for Leipzig and scored 15 goals and set up 19 more. He was known for his constant pressing. He won the German Cup with Leipzig in 2022 and 2023.
The Austrian had been talked about going to Munich for a while, and his former coach at Leipzig, Julian Nagelsmann, who used to manage Bayern, liked him a lot.
Laimer is Bayern’s first big signing of the summer and the first big one since the club fired Hasan Salihamidzic, who was in charge of sports, in late May.
Bayern won the league title on the last day of the season because they scored more goals than Borussia Dortmund. It was their 11th German title in a row.
Laimer will play in Bayern’s midfield with stars like Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, and Marcel Sabitzer, who is also from Austria.
Sabitzer joined Munich from RB Leipzig. He will return to Bayern after spending the second half of the season on loan at Manchester United.
